Day 02 Trial

[It is once more time to convene at the temple to pass judgment upon those who would destroy everything we know and love. Godspeed, my friends.]

((Vote here!

EDIT: Right now barely anyone has voted, and people seem to be tapering off. Trial may be extended depending on how it looks closer to closing time!

EDIT2: Okay, I'm extending the vote two hours to 6:30pm EST! We're still missing a lot of votes, so please get those in even if it's just to abstain!))

Whether I see it as a game or not, I haven't been out for anyone's blood since the initial note was written - I haven't been asking for the heads of my accusers, nor have I been determined to send anyone to the pyre without being certain with the exception of Ling, the reason for which would be obvious, given that I saw the man as a demon.

This course of action has opened me up for scrutiny since the start; you could have chosen to listen to Fulbright and kill me yesterday, for all I know. Were I a demon, this would be a flat-out suicidal option and detrimental to my side - and say what you will about me, but I'm not the sort to act to my own detriment.

I don't stand to gain from this unless I'm the genuine article. Mr. Fulbright, on the other hand, has been after my blood so vehemently that I'm beginning to think there's no way he doesn't stand to gain from it.

I still respect your decision to step forward and reveal yourself -- it was a brave one. But it still also raises doubts. If you are not who you say, as I have already argued, it raises the possibility of whether this all not just an elaborate ploy to distract the Templar into protecting you, while other villagers are picked off one at a time.

Detective Fulbright, on the other hand, has done nothing to mislead the rest of us, even if his logic has not always been sound. Your actions place your integrity in doubt more than his own.

Honestly, that assumes the Templar is willing to do anything to protect me at all - it would be an equally sound decision to suspect me of being a demon and not trying.

If the demons didn't target me that first night, it would be an indication of a lie, wouldn't it?

But with no one else having revealed their roles, the safest choice for the Templar would be to protect you instead of to risk losing you, because they lacked proof you are a demon. The argument can be made both ways.

This is a game of numbers, however - it would have made just as much sense, if not more so, to protect those who had outed themselves as Soulmates in order to keep our numbers up.

Don't misunderstand me, I grant the argument.

I will say that you're hinging the rest of it on the notion that I am lying to you and Fulbright is not, however - you have no proof one way or another that he's done nothing to mislead the rest of us, and he's been calling for blood to the extent that his partner has had to rein him in on multiple occasions.

Who knows the Templar's line of thought? Anyone with a role might be more valuable to them than a pair of Soulmates with no known role. A Seer will lead us to the truth far quicker than we would gain it on our own, thus saving more lives.

I have already conceded the detective's logic has not always been sound. He was casting suspicion on Oswin and his partner, who became victims last night. But hastily-made judgements are no indication of guilt.
fauxlosophical: (INTEREST ☉ i like how you think)

[personal profile] fauxlosophical 2014-12-05 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
There's nothing preventing you from abstaining, if you're unsure; I've conceded already that I may follow that line of action myself if I can't convince myself to do otherwise.

As it is, the fact remains that Mr. Fulbright remains suspicious as far as I'm concerned, and it's not in a way that "unsound logic" can necessarily explain away. That's all I'm saying; again, I'm not calling for his blood, regardless of what I may think personally.

What matters most here is not how you or I vote as individuals, but whether the village as a whole can be convinced. And from what I have seen so far, neither you nor Detective Fulbright have made any arguments to cast sufficient doubt on either one of you.

As things stand now, we are at a stalemate.
fauxlosophical: (GOAD ☉ go on and keep that up)

[Well, the violet-haired idiot down there is being really loud, but otherwise...]

Honestly, in that case I say let it be. We'll see what the others have decided by the end of this, and if we end up perfectly split, one of us will be destroyed at random. We'll see which of us has been chosen by the world, in that case.
