Yes.

The man I selected is a very influential person, where we're from, and he's in the militia besides - I thought that perhaps the demons may have chosen someone like that, someone in a position of power. I also tend to not see eye-to-eye with his partner on many things, and when I "discovered" that Ling was a demon, I saw fit to act because if they happened to be bonded, I was concerned they may want to use that as grounds to act against me without even knowing my position - after all, the first few days involve none of us really knowing what we're doing until patterns emerge.

Why him and not his partner, then?

Because whether we see things the same way or not, I'm slightly more willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
