Jotaro Kujo, a Demon, has gone to the barn instead of coming to this trial. Isn't that strange? It's almost like some kind of horrible ravenous thing lives in there and is luring in victims. Gosh.

We may mourn him afterward. For now, let us proceed. I wish the best of luck to you in this difficult task, as always.

[With a mad smile, the Major looks over at the Lady. He's cringing a little bit, but he bears with it.]

My Lady, I'd like to make this trial a little more interesting. Would you be interested in a proposition?

I will guarantee that sometime during this trial, you will gain a full confession from a Demon and more. In the event that this should happen, I insist that you reconsider my sister Clover's proposition from yesterday temporarily.

This will be a special circumstance, I assure you, so the Faithful will vote once again on how to dispose of this demon: by flame or by sleep, if only for this specific case. How does that sound?

Is that a 'yes' to voting once again on whether to burn or put to sleep? I cannot proceed without an answer in absolute terms.

[The Major raises up his hand and cries out in a booming voice.]

Ladies and gentlemen, Achtung!!

[Looking to see that he has everyone's attention now, he smiles first, then bares his teeth as he does.]

... Are you all well today? I can see even through these thick spectacles the pain and confusion the lot of you must feel at this moment. This hunt has claimed the lives of our dear friends and you've been betrayed many times over.

If it is a Demon you want, then look no further...

[He raises his arms up and spreads them wide as his golden eyes flash with malice that would flood an entire battlefield.]

Your nemesis is here! Right in front of you! It is I, the Archdemon, finally revealed front and center on the Lady's chessboard!

[As if the spotlight is over him and as if he's addressing a theater of thousands, he looks up at the air with absolute triumph.]

Excellent, excellent! I expected nothing less! I guarantee, my lady, you're in for a treat.

You want to be set on fire or what?

If that is your preference, by all means. But this is far from over.

You're all not done struggling just yet, which is why I won't reveal the identities of the remaining Demons. Except, of course, that Clover is my soulmate. Even the idea of sharing a soul is wretched to me, I promise you.

To be honest, I don't have allegiances to either your Lady or the Demons anymore. I come to you as... me.

[ DO want to set this guy on fire, but kind of "meh" on setting Clover on fire . . . dilemmas. ]

Why are you confessing this now?

You've noticed that many of our numbers have dwindled. Partly from the work of the Maddened, partly from unforeseen circumstances. I don't doubt that it would've been my turn next or the turn after to slumber.

And I can't accept that. Not any longer. What I need is a battle and that is why I've asked the Lady to reconsider yesterday's judgment this one time. As I've told Parker, I also don't have any allegiances to either your Lady or the Demons, so it's no love lost.

Offering yourself up for us to decide whether you live or die... How is that a battle? It sounds more to me like giving up.

Those who live by the sword must inevitably die by the sword, Connor. I am presenting you all an opportunity for enlightenment and if you don't take it, well, I'd consider that my victory. And to test how much you learn here, I have put my life on the line, as well as the life of a perfectly innocent girl.

[Connor stares at him for a long moment. Then he says, evenly:]

Your efforts are wasted on me, Major. I do not need your lessons in enlightenment.

[He only smiles at that, not once fading.]

But you do. There is so much here that you don't understand. Not you, not the Faithful, not the Demons.

And me? Well, I remembered who I am.

[Connor's expression doesn't change; there's no surprise in it. There is, however, a trace of quiet anger.] I will say it again: I do not need your lessons.

If this is the reason you are putting an innocent girl's life on the line, you have made a poor choice.

Your the Archdemon, huh? Does that mean you're the one who put Simon to sleep? And... can you prove it?
